Nativity Katavasies
Ode 1 Christ is born! Glorify Him! Christ is from heaven! Receive Him! Christ is on earth! Be exalted! All the earth sing to the Lord and all the people praise Him with joy for He has been glorified!
Ode 3 Let us cry out to the Son, who was begotten of the Father who is before all ages. And who of late became incarnate of the Virgin without seed, Christ our God. You O Lord who have uplifted our power, are Holy.
Ode 4 You O Christ are a rod from the root of Jesse, from which a flower sprang forth from the Virgin. You, the praised one, came from the mountain of dense forest, taking flesh from her who knew not a man. You are the incorporeal and God, Glory to your power O Lord.
Ode 5 Being the God of peace, Father of compassion, You sent us your angel of great counsel, granting us peace. Wherefore, rising from darkness, being led to the light of divine knowledge, we glorify You O loving one.
Ode 6 The sea monster disgorged Jonah from its belly, like a newborn babe, the one it had received. The Logos dwelt and received flesh in the Virgin and came forth from her. Yet she retained her incorruption for being Himself free from undergoing change, He kept her who gave him birth unharmed.
Ode 7 The Youth brought up together in piety, distain the degree of the impious one. They were not intimidated by the threat of fire, but stood, singing “Blessed are You! O God of our Fathers!”
We praise, we bless, and we worship the Lord!
Ode 8 The dew bearing furnace portrays the image of a super natural wonder; for it does not burn the youth it has received, Just as the fire of the divinity did not burn the womb of the Virgin it had entered. Wherefore let us sing in praise! Let all creation bless and exult the Lord unto the ages.
Ode 9 I behold a strange and marvelous mystery! The cave is heaven!. The virgin, a Cherubic throne. The Manger a room in which Christ our God, who is boundless was placed, whom we magnify and praise!
